POCKET TOWN: A LITTLE VOCABULARY ERRAND Student sheet Read the story. Match the six words to their meanings. Answer two questions, then write one sentence. That is the whole quest! Everything happens in the story; you do not need to go anywhere or take photographs. THE ERRAND TO THE READING CORNER The park is getting a tiny reading corner, and you have a few things to collect. At the library, you borrow a storybook. "Bring it back next week," says the note tucked inside. You put it in your bag. Next, you collect a parcel at the post office. The label says fragile. Inside is a paper windmill, wrapped in soft tissue so its thin blades will not bend. At the bakery, the aroma of warm bread drifts through the doorway. You collect a bag of rolls for the reading corner. Now your bag smells rather good. The market has red, blue and green ribbons. You select the blue one to tie around the windmill's stick, leaving the other colours on the stall. Oh dear - one paper blade has torn. At the repair shop, you repair it with a small strip of tape. The blade can turn again. By the time you reach the park, rain is pattering on the path. You take shelter under the pavilion roof, where you and your bag stay dry. You set out the book, the rolls and the windmill. The reading corner is ready. Question 1: The paper windmill. Its blades are thin and wrapped in tissue to prevent bending; one blade later tears. Accept any two of those details. The label identifies it as fragile, but ask for evidence beyond the label. Question 2: Under the park pavilion's roof. Rain is falling, but the narrator and bag stay dry there. Sentence example: "At the repair shop, you select a strong patch to repair a hole in a bag." Accept other sentences that show both a choice among possibilities and a damaged object being fixed. "I select repair" uses the words without demonstrating their meanings.
